About the work

Zarina Bhimji is a photographer, film maker and installation artist. Her edition Untitled, 2012 is taken from an image which forms part of the research for her latest film, Yellow Patch (2011) which premiered at the Whitechapel Gallery and The New Art Gallery, Walsall. The film takes as its starting point the history of trade and migration between India and Africa and was filmed in four main locations across the Indian sub-continent. As in all of her work, Bhimji approaches her subject with a painterly approach that relinquishes factual presentation in favour of highlighting its aesthetic qualities, such as its distinct quality of light and dramatic location.
